Stress & Depression
.

While everyone has feelings of sadness at times, prolonged symptoms of sadness that affect a person’s ability to function can indicate clinical depression. According to Neil Nedley, M.D., depression is on the rise and may "affect 200 million people worldwide and 19 million Americans. The cost is over $70 billion in treatment, disability and lost productivity in the United States each year."

Dr. Nedley also states that depression is striking at an early age, with major episodes of depression now occurring before age 25.
1 A thorough Medical Evaluation of symptoms and history to determine the cause is important. We offer classes on Stress Management as well as Personalized Counseling to help participants understand how we relate to stressors that can cause depression. Treating underlying chronic health problems can also help. Depression is often seen with other illnesses such as heart disease or diabetes, or after a major surgery. Fortunately, there are many lifestyle factors that can improve depression. Our Nutrition and Cooking classes introduce a dietary full of nutrients that can improve brain and mood function. Exercise produces endorphins to help bring hope and courage to the mind, especially outdoors in the beautiful Oregon countryside. Hydrotherapy and massage is very beneficial to reduce stress and pain and increase the sense of well being. All these factors put together in our Live-for-Health Wellness Program go a long way toward helping someone overcome the effects of depression and stress.
